How to Prevent Cracks in Acrylic Render

Preparation, the right system, joints and curing — how professional application reduces cracking.

5 Apr 2026 · By Apex Rendering

Hairline cracks worry every homeowner. Some movement is normal in buildings, but visible cracking often traces back to preparation, wrong product choice or coating applied too fast.

Preparation is non-negotiable

Loose paint, dust, mould and unstable patches must be removed. Primers and base coats bond the system to the substrate. Where movement is likely, mesh and control joints are specified — not optional extras.

Right system, right weather

Acrylic render needs compatible undercoats and thickness per manufacturer guidance. Applying in extreme heat, cold or wet weather affects adhesion and cure. We schedule coats when conditions are suitable for Sydney.

Maintenance matters too: keep weep holes clear on retaining walls, fix leaks promptly and avoid mechanical damage from ladders or impacts.

If cracks appear, get them assessed — cosmetic refill is different from structural movement. We can advise on repairs and recoating where needed.
