Acrylic vs Cement Render: Which Is Right for Your Sydney Home?
Compare flexibility, finish, cost and durability so you can choose the right render system for your exterior.

Choosing between acrylic and cement render is one of the first decisions homeowners in The Hills District and Greater Sydney need to make. Both can deliver a sharp, modern façade — but they behave differently on the wall, especially in our climate.
At Apex Rendering we apply both systems daily on homes, fences and retaining walls. Here is a practical comparison without the jargon.
Cement render — traditional strength
Cement render has been used for generations. It is mineral-based, hard-wearing and well suited to masonry substrates like brick and block. Finished correctly, it gives a solid, classic look and performs reliably when preparation and curing are done properly.
Cement render is less flexible than acrylic, which means movement in the building or substrate must be managed with the right mix, mesh and control joints. It is a strong choice for many full-home exteriors and structural walls where a robust mineral finish is preferred.
Acrylic render — flexibility and colour
Acrylic render is a pre-mixed, polymer-modified coating. It is more flexible, which helps resist hairline cracking on surfaces that move with temperature changes — common in Sydney summers.
Acrylic systems are popular for coloured finishes, feature walls, fences and retaining walls because colour can be integrated through the coat, reducing maintenance compared with painted cement in some cases. Many of our Kellyville and Hills District projects use premium acrylic for that smooth, contemporary street appeal.
Which should you choose?
There is no single winner for every house. Substrate condition, exposure (sun, salt if coastal), desired texture, colour and budget all matter. We assess these on site and bring sample boards so you can see and feel options before you commit.
